Think-Aloud Extension: Privacy Policy

Effective 12 June 2026. Applies to the "Chess Coach Think-Aloud" browser extension.

What the extension does

The extension lets you narrate your thinking out loud while you play on chess.com. It transcribes your speech, tags each remark with the move that was on the board at the time, and after the game delivers the transcript bundle to the MySecond coaching app running on your own computer, so your coach can discuss what you were thinking. It is a passive recorder for post-game review: it never analyses positions, never suggests moves, and never sends anything anywhere during a live game.

What is collected

• Speech transcripts. Text of what you say while recording is on, with timestamps and the move number on the board.
• The move list. The moves of your game as chess.com displays them, with the time each move appeared.
• The game URL and id, so the transcript can be matched to the game.

Where it goes

• Transcripts are held in your browser's local extension storage while a game is in progress, and sent only to your own MySecond app on your own machine (localhost, or an address you explicitly configure). We operate no server that receives this data. It is never sold, shared, or transmitted to us or to any third party by the extension.
• Audio: the extension does not record, store, or transmit audio. Speech recognition is performed by your browser's built-in Web Speech service. Be aware that Chrome sends speech audio to Google, and Edge to Microsoft, to perform that transcription, under their respective privacy policies. Only the resulting text ever reaches the extension.

What is not collected

No analytics, no tracking, no cookies, no browsing history, no account data, no chess.com credentials, no data from any site other than chess.com game pages. The microphone is used only after you start recording, and you can stop at any time from the on-screen pill.

Your control

• Recording is opt-in per session and visible at all times in the status pill and your browser's microphone indicator.
• Delete local data any time: remove the extension (clears its browser storage) and delete the transcript files in your MySecond app's data/think_aloud/ folder.
